Importance of Gut & Brain Connection
FEELING BLOATED – FAT – HEAVY AND LETHARGIC?
The gut’s brain plays a crucial role in our happiness and suffering, influencing our emotions, moods, reactions, and some behaviours.
The digestive process generates energy for maintenance, repairs the body, and disposes of waste and toxins. Ancient cultures believed in “thinking from the stomach,” and modern science now recognizes the gut as a second brain, known as the enteric nervous system, which is situated in the tissues lining the oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, and colon. Approximately 75% of the immune system and 90-95% of serotonin, along with two-thirds of neurotransmitters, are produced in the gut.
The digestive tract is connected to every major system in our body, affecting hormone metabolism, cholesterol regulation, chemical and toxin elimination, brain function, energy production, and nutrient absorption.
Therefore, efficient digestion, beneficial bacteria, adequate stomach acid, and healthy bile are vital for our well-being. They influence our feelings, thoughts, and behaviours and can naturally remedy conditions such as depression, autoimmune diseases, anxiety, brain fog, fatigue, cravings for sugar and carbohydrates, dementia, and minimize food sensitivities, gas, bloating, while also reducing the risk of diabetes, cancer, autism, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s diseases.
If the gut cannot effectively absorb nutrients and convert them into essential brain chemicals, the production of serotonin and other crucial neurotransmitters will be compromised. Consequently, indigestion, leaky gut, thyroid and silent infections can lead to mood disorders like anxiety, depression, and neurological and psychological disorders, cognitive dysfunction, and resistance to weight loss. Indigestion, or dyspepsia, is quite common.
The issue often stems from the improper secretion of digestive juices, which are necessary for breaking down food before absorption. However, there are several causes, including:
- Repeated use of antibiotics.
2. Depleted or disturbed stomach and intestinal flora (healthy bacteria).
3. Insufficient intake or production of prebiotics and probiotics.
To alleviate indigestion and bloating:
1. Eat slowly and consume small portions at a time.
2. Limit foods that are difficult to digest and contain starch, such as meat, flour-based items, sugar, alcohol, certain fruits (which can be cooling for digestion), salads, cold water, dairy products, and bread.
3. Avoid letting your stomach become too hungry.
4. Perform daily stomach massages.
5. Rest after meals, as blood flows to the stomach for nutrient distribution throughout the body, so take it easy and let the body work to deliver nutrients to the cells.
6. Consume warm foods and warm water, sipping slowly.
7. Be mindful of your diet; if certain foods cause bloating or indigestion, avoid them until your stomach is balanced.
8. Probiotics are varied; choose one that suits your stomach. For example, make your own yogurt (since most commercial yogurts lack live bacteria, which only survive for about 5 hours), try Kim Chi if yogurt is too cooling (opt for a less spicy version to warm the stomach), or consider sauerkraut. Experiment with different foods and how you consume them.
9. If available, the HotHouse Far infrared dome and E-Power can be beneficial: use the E-Power right after eating to produce enzymes that break down food and help absorb nutrients into your cells while eliminating excess waste, thus detoxifying and cleansing the blood. The Far infrared dome activates enzymes and creates Nitric Oxide, loosening tight muscles and tendons around the stomach, improving circulation, and aiding in the release of nutrients from food to cells while removing excess waste.
Both E-Power and the infrared dome are crucial for calming and relaxing the body, enhancing the digestive system’s function over time, restoring balance, and ultimately leading to increased energy and the reduction of excess fluid and fat.
